Most people set a health goal for the new year. Unfortunately, only 8% of people achieve success in their goals which is where we come in.
Both Brad and I will be upping our game with our own health in 2017.
We aren’t looking to lose weight, exercise more or take on a whole new way of eating.
Yes, those will be welcome side effects of our reset program but what we are going for is renewed energy, more vitality in our daily lives and a clearer, better-functioning mind.
And…in order to keep us accountable, on track and successful, we are bringing our kids into it as well.
Yup, we are embarking on the Whole Family Reset.
With our great results from our January 2016 “adult” cleanse plus the success we experienced in our 7-Day Freedom From Sugar Family Challenge, we’ve decided to up the ante in January by hosting a 21-Day Whole Family Reset.
This program isn’t like any other program you’ve done before.
You can find get our 3-part video series on detoxing here.
Firstly, this program will help rid your body of toxins that could be causing you symptoms such as:
- unstable blood sugar levels
- inability to lose weight
- sluggish metabolism
- indigestion
- recurrent headaches
- depression
- irritability
- hormonal imbalances
- fatigue
- putrid body odor
- brain fog
- insomnia
- impaired thermoregulation (get hot or cold too easily)
That are caused by:
- food sensitivities
- leaky gut
- poor nutrition
- oral contraceptives
- poor lymphatic movement
- stress
- blue light exposure
- constant and excessive thermal comfort
- poor digestion
- excess hormones (animal products, cosmetics, beauty products, etc)
- bloating
- excessive abdominal fat
- and more
We live in a pretty toxic world from the food we consume (filled with preservatives, chemicals, antibiotics, pesticides, etc) to the clothes we wear and the furniture we use as well as our overexposure to blue light (T.V., computer screens, cell phones, tablets, LED and fluorescent lighting, etc) heavy metals, radiation and more.
When the body is burdened with too much input and not enough output, we don’t work as well which results in some of the symptoms listed above.
So why not do a 3-day juice detox?
Because…
Before engaging in any detox, you first need to do your homework.
There are many detoxes out there that will leave you more toxic than when you first started.
Detoxes that don’t guide you through the three phases process that systematically supports your body during the entire program, will leave you feeling worse off than before.
What Is Detoxification?
Detoxification is the removal of the waste products of normal metabolism from the body as well as toxic substances, which is mainly carried out by the liver.
Other organs play a role in the detoxification system of the body, such as the colon, skin, lymph, lungs and kidneys.
“The Grandfather Organ”
The Liver – largest organ in the body (besides the skin)
The liver is the body’s filter and protector and is probably one of the most important organs for supporting your physical health.
- The liver acts like a filter with huge amounts of blood flowing through it every moment. Good nutrition allows the liver to filter the blood and bad things (toxins and harmful substances).
- The liver is the key in the production of bile, which functions to break down fats.
- It is a source of energy, storing glucose in the form of glycogen which is converted back to glucose.
- It metabolizes carbohydrates, proteins and fats, allowing the food you eat to turn into energy.
It’s an amazing organ that does so much to keep us healthy. It’s is so amazing that people often believe there is no need to assist it and detoxes are a waste of time.
Well, some are and some are actually worse than a waste of time (see below) but just like doing cardiovascular activity benefits your hearts functioning, brushing your teeth helps your dental hygiene and learning new things aids your brain’s abilities, so does a well structured and fortified cleanse/detox/reset improve your liver’s ability to do its job.
We’ll elaborate on the myths surrounded detoxes at a later date.
If you are lacking energy and your immune system is suffering, your liver is probably congested. You could even have a degree of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
The Problem with Most Detoxes:
There are many quick and fast detox programs out there but instead of helping your body return to a balanced state, they end up doing more harm than good by making you nutrient deficient and releasing more toxins into your body.
- Most toxins are stored in fat cells to protect the body
- If doing a detox or reset, then you need to complete a proper program where you follow the three phases of detox and support your body through the process.
- Most release toxins from fat cells and if not supported with nutrition/supplements, then you can become more toxic and feel worse, gain weight, etc.
What Is A Good Detox?
A good detox will lead you through a three-phase process that turns toxins stored in fat cells into water soluble toxins that the body can eliminate.
Phase I –
Is about supporting the body while it turns fat-soluble toxins into water-soluble toxins so that the body is able to eliminate them. Thus the body needs to be nourished to produce enzymes and nutrients that help to transform these “bad guys” (toxins, excess hormones, RX drugs, food additives, chemicals, preservatives, etc) by neutralizing them and starting to make them into a water-soluble compound that the body is then able to excrete.
The danger here is if you do not continue on to the next phase or the body is not supported enough, these toxins become “free” in the body and actually make you more toxic.
You can think of phase 1 of this detoxification process as the pre-wash cycle – it starts to loosen the dirt and debris from your clothes.
Phase II
Phase three, transforms the toxins, making them water-soluble so that the body can eliminate it.
Amino acids (the building blocks of protein) are required to propel phase II. They attach to the toxins to complete the neutralization of them and escort them out of the body.
You can think of Phase II as the main wash cycle – that removes dirt and debris leaving your clothes clean.
Phase III
Phase three is the elimination phase.
The neutralized toxins are eliminated out the digestive track bile, or via the kidneys in urine, much like the drain and spin cycle.
The focus of this part of the program is on you, the parent.
But…kids are exposed to toxins too, especially in this day and age.
For a reality check, have a look at:
- This TedTalk by Penelope Jagessar-Chaffer.
- Read about the study that the Environmental Working Group did that found more than 200 toxins in newborn umbilical cord blood.
- See what happened to a family who ate all organic foods for two weeks.
We don’t recommend you child join you for the entire supplement regime of the program but they can certainly benefit from the clean, nutrient-dense meals that you will be enjoying.
If done properly detoxing will stimulate the liver to rid the body of toxins and excess hormones, boost weight loss and strengthen the immune system. Some other benefits are…
- make you feel better overall
- help in disease prevention
- give your organs and body systems a rest
- purification
- weight loss
- enhances the senses
- better concentration
- slows aging process
- mental clarity
- better sleeping
- improved mood
- clear the skin/healthy glow
- physical rejuvenation
- better digestion
Who wouldn’t want that?
